Meet our friend - Coconut Casa

We'd like to introduce you to Coconut Casa.

But you're probably wondering who they are and why we teamed with them to bring you the campaign imagery for our first full collection, 'Echoes of the Ocean'.

In short, much like us, they are another female founded, small business from Sydney. Specifically, reigning from the Northern Beaches of Sydney. Their love for the ocean is one we resonate with, so teaming up was easy!

For Earth Day 2026, we sat down with Nina, the ever charismatic brains behind Coconut Casa to get to know her inspiration, mission and ethos a little bit better.

How long has Coconut Casa been around? And how did it start?

I came up with the idea for Coconut Casa in mid 2022, whilst sitting on my favourite beach in the whole wide world, Lanikai Beach on Oahu, Hawaii. We were still fresh in the Covid mindset of it all and this was one of my first overseas trips since travel had reopened to us all, which meant some things were still a bit strange. I had just done a beautiful snorkeling boat day to the Kane'ohe Bay SandBar which was quite a popular day trip but it meant we were snorkeling using shared snorkel sets that we had rented. When it was time for me to pick up my snorkel set, it had just been used by another (visibly sick) man who had dropped them in a bucket and walked away. At that moment I thought "god I wish I had my own snorkel set".

After that tour I began researching snorkel sets to purchase for future travels/adventures and I decided that If I was going to spend a good amount of money on a snorkel set, it would need to be good quality, good looking and travel friendly. I didn't find anything that really tickled my fancy so decided to make my own brand instead!

In this time, has there been any stand out moments for you?

The first thing that came to mind was when a few of our snorkel sets were featured on the TV show Home & Away! Shelley from the H&A Costume department first reached out to purchase some of our Summer Lovers Tote Bags to feature on the show and then another 6 months later she reached out again for some of our Tiki Reef Snorkel Sets! Seeing them on TV for the first time was so exciting.

Seeing them out in the wild is just as exciting too! I was sitting at a nail salon once and a stranger walked by carrying our tote bag. I definitely squealed on the inside.

Your snorkels feel like ones you want to travel with; they're compact and high quality. Has there been contributing factors in the design process?

Absolutely! The travel-friendly aspect was one of the most important parts to me. The masks themselves don't take up too much room but snorkels are kind of awkward and clunky. I love that ours roll up into their little shells so they are compact enough to fit in any beach bag. You shouldn't miss a good underwater view just because your snorkel didn't fit!

Another really important part of it all was making sure that the material they're made from is really safe, high quality and durable. I don't want people to have to keep buying new snorkel sets and fins - I want them to keep the same ones forever and continue making memories with them all over the world. It's so special when you have that one thing you really bond with and take with you everywhere. I want our snorkel sets to be that one thing for our customers like they are for me! Something that also really upsets me is seeing cheap, broken plastic snorkel sets discarded on the beach or floating the sea because someone was too lazy to take them elsewhere to throw them away properly. I like to think we're doing our part to help stop that from happening.

The love of the ocean and a sustainable offer go hand in hand for you. Are there any other ways you bring that to life?

I've always felt a deep responsibility to care for the ocean and the planet. They give us so much, and it's only right we give back. Protecting coral reefs is especially close to my heart, which is why with every Coconut Casa purchase, a portion goes toward supporting Resilient Reefs Foundation (formerly the Reef Restoration Foundation). Because the ocean's creatures deserve a safe, thriving home just as much as we do.

Education is just as important as well - I like to follow a lot of marine biologists and ocean scientists on social media to keep up with their knowledge. There are also lots of cool companies out there doing their thing to help keep the oceans clean. I highly suggest checking out the Aussie company Seabin. Such an awesome idea!

You have been to some incredible locations. Has there been a favourite destination to snorkel in?

This is such a tough question because I love them all for different reasons! I went snorkeling with humpback whales in the deep ocean off Aitutaki in the Cook islands, which was the most magical experience! I also loved swimming with the tiny little reef sharks in Koh Tao, Thailand. The Caribbean has some incredible snorkeling spots as well!

A lot of people are also shocked to find out you can even spot turtles snorkeling right here in Sydney. The Cabbage Tree Bay Aquatic Reserve off Shelly Beach in Manly has some adorable resident green sea turtles and other incredible wildlife to check out.

In the cooler months, how do you get your ocean fix?

I wont lie, ocean swimming/snorkeling in Sydney is pretty brutal in the middle of winter but the water is absolutely GORGEOUS so it's still worth it. The clarity is insane! In saying that, I always enjoy a quick little tropical getaway in the middle of July just to get my tropical fix.

Tropical getaways are part of your balance to life. Where is next on your wish list of destinations?

Tropical getaways ARE my life! Next on my list are the Philippines, French Polynesia and Cocos Keeling Islands.

We love that you love the ocean as much as us! Given our latest collection is 'Echoes of the Ocean', when you think back to a memory by the beach, what feelings/time come to mind?

My love for the beach started very young. I have some incredible memories of doing Nippers as a little kid on a Sunday Morning on Freshwater beach and hanging out with my family afterwards. The smell of sunscreen is so nostalgic to me and it always takes me back to my childhood beach days.

Do you have any tips on how others can live a troppy life?

One way I like to get my tropical fix is through watching movies. I have a few nostalgic, tropical comfort movies I will always go back to: Soul Surfer, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Holiday in the sun, Blue Crush and Blue lagoon are right up at the top of that list. All very different but all absolutely stunning movies.

Sometimes when I want to be extra whimsy/troppy, I'll play vintage Hawaiian in the background when I'm working. "Pineapple Princess" by Santo & Johnny is a whole vibe!

And lastly, what's your top 3 pieces from our 'Echoes of the Ocean' collection?

SEA BLOOM SHIRT - The second I saw the Sea Bloom shirt I absolutely fell in love with the print. Imagine draping that over a bikini and strolling around a secluded island. Ugh!

STARRY MINI SKIRT - I feel like the Starry Mini Skirt is the perfect piece to wear to any occasion, day or night. Boat day? Check. Sunset at a beach bar? Check. Night out? Check!

GETAWAY PAREO - I can't get over the Getaway Pareo. It's so light and airy and versatile with such a cool girl beach vibe. I'll take fourteen of them!
